> Native American Activities Plastic Totem PolesTotem poles were built by Native American Indians and they meant many different things. Each pole often had many faces on it, with the top being an owl-like creature. Make your very own totem pole using old milk containers. Totem Pole SuppliesEmpty dairy containers, cylindrical in shapeColored paper Pencil Scissors Glue Markers and/or paints Totem Pole 'Building' Instructions1. Thoroughly wash and dry the containers. The last thing you want is a smelly totem pole! Yuck!2. Cover the container with colored paper by gluing it on. 3. Allow to dry and while doing so, look at pictures of totem poles on the internet for inspiration. 4. Draw either funny or scary faces with a pencil on the totem pole paper. Color the drawing in with markers, crayons or paint. 5. Or, cut and paste the face features from colored paper. 6. Don't forget that most totem poles had things that stuck out from them. So you could make wings or antennae or a nose that sticks out or anything like that. 7. Stack three or more totem poles on top of each other and glue them together. |
