Polar Fleece BlanketOlder children like to do crafts too but often times they feel they are meant for the younger generation. Many girls learn to crotchet or knit but can become easily bored with these types of things. Polar fleece blankets have become the thing these days and it’s easy for your older child to make one. Here’s what they need. What You’ll Need* Polar fleece material* Fine point black marker * Measuring tape * Scissors InstructionsThis type of material can be found in a fabric store or even a department store. Your child will want to pick out their own material. Take them on a shopping spree to find just the right fabric for their blanket. Some kids like to make a two sided blanket. It can be the same on both sides or have 2 different solid colors. Let them use their imagination to come up with something that suits them and their personality. When shopping for the material they will need to decide how big they want their blanket to be. Be sure when purchasing the material that you purchase about 12 inches more than the size of the blanket. This will be necessary to make the fringe on the blanket. Lay the fabric out wrong side up and horizontal on a flat surface. Use the black marker to mark the blanket. Have them begin at the edge and measure up vertically 6 inches. Mark the blanket for each cut they want to make. This will be the fringe of the blanket and will go all the way around the fabric. Once they have them marked they can cut along the lines. If they are using 2 pieces of material they will want to place the fabrics back to back. Beginning at one corner they can tie the fringe together in a tight knot or a bow. Be sure the tie is tight to keep the two pieces of fabric together. Tie the fringe all the way around the blanket to finish the product. Now your child has made themselves a nice warm blanket to use however they wish. Not only did they accomplish a fun craft but they made something for themselves they can use for years to come. |
