Potato StampsOne craft that will be a lot of fun is to make stamps to paint using common potatoes! Adult supervision is required for this one. What You’ll Needpotatoesknife newspaper finger paint plate Instructions1. Mom or Dad will have to use the knife as they are not safe for little hands. Cut a potato in half and have the child determine what size they want to use. Chunky designs can be made such as apples, leaves or the sun. Mom or Dad will then cut the design from the potato.2. Cover the table with newspaper so the mess of potatoes won't get all over. Put finger paint onto a piece of paper or plate and begin stamping! You should be able to get more then one stamp out of the amount of paint you put on the potato, then you can change the paint color. 3. If the potato breaks down it can be cut off and recut into a new design! Other options for a stamp are a rubber eraser, cork board or cardboard. The size of the stamp will determine the size of design. Tip: Keep a damp sponge near the work area when stamping so your child can keep the mess down and clean the stamp easily! If you want other options to use as a stamp for painting, why not use a rubber eraser, cork board, or cardboard as the medium for the stamp base? Of course, the size of the stamp base you use will determine the size of the design your child can make. Keep a damp sponge near your child’s work area while stamping so they can keep the mess down and clean off the stamp between colors. |
