Prehistoric Flowering Plant

Kids have never seen this flowering plant, which first appeared in the time of dinosaurs. It will be so much fun for them to bring these beautiful plants back to life! They can even pretend to be scientists that accomplished this, and do "TV interviews" of each other all about these interesting plants and all that it took to bring them back!

Prehistoric Plant Parts

Brown lunch bag
Old newspapers, junk mail, or any paper that's about to land in the trash!
Masking tape
Paints
Paintbrushes
Colored paper
Scissors
Glue

Bringing These Plants Back To Life

1. Stuff the lunch bag half-full with crumpled newspapers or the paper you've saved from the landfill. Shut it tightly by wrapping the masking tape around it, leaving about 3 inches of the top of the bag free.

2. Cut the top of the bag into leaf shapes. Do not cut the leaves off from the bag! Leave them attached to the rest of the brown bag.

3. Paint the leaves green and paint the bottom part of the paper bag different shades of brown. Let the paint dry completely.

4. Meanwhile, cut flower shapes from colored paper. You can cut them all different sizes, as each one can be at a different stage of growth. You can choose many different colors or even just a few colors, making a certain color scheme for your flowering plant.

5. When the plant is completely dry, glue the flowers all around the trunk, or brown part of the plant.

6. Have fun interviewing each other about your amazing plants!

Optional: Let your beautiful, prehistoric plant be a very interesting centerpiece for the table. What a conversation starter it will be!
