> President's Day Activities President’s Day Finger PuppetsTeaching children about President's Day can be a little tedious for the kids sometimes. It can be frustrating trying to come up with ways to make it interesting and fun. Finger puppets are one way to help teach your children about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln while having a little fun too. Having the "President" actually tell their own story, via the finger puppet, helps keep kids intrigued and interested in the story. What You’ll Need* Pennies and nickels, enough for each child to have one of each* Blue and black construction paper * Scissors * Tape InstructionsCut the blue and black construction paper into pieces that will fit around your child’s finger. Help your child measure the paper to make sure it fits but can also be slid over your child’s finger without any trouble. You want the paper to be even with their hand and the top of the finger. Tape the construction paper together on the side. Now tape a penny to the black piece of construction paper and the nickel to the blue piece. Be sure the faces on the coins are facing out and that the coins are taped to the inside of the finger. Cut a stove top hat shape out of the black construction paper. It needs to small enough to fit on the penny. Tape it to the top of the penny for a stove top hat on President Lincoln. Now cut a triangle hat out of the blue construction paper and place it on the nickel for President Washington. Now your children have President finger puppets. Have them put on a play for you about what they have learned about George and Honest Abe. |
