Puzzle Pieces Tree

Although leaves on a tree are all shaped the same, they don't look the same when they're far away against the sky and moving all around. You might even imagine that you're looking at a puzzle. This project let's you create a 'puzzle' tree just like you imagined.

What You’ll Need

old jigsaw puzzle pieces
pencil
construction paper
scissors
cardboard for support (optional)
glue
markers
paint and paint brushes

Instructions

1. Draw and cut out a tree shape (the trunk and branches) from brown construction paper. Glue it to a sheet of blue paper. You may want to glue the blue paper to a heavy piece of cardboard to support your picture when it's done.

2. Use the jigsaw puzzle pieces to make leaves for the tree. Depending on the colors of the puzzle pieces that you have, you could make a summer tree (green pieces), spring tree (light green pieces), or an autumn tree (red, orange and brown pieces). You could also paint the puzzle pieces the color you desire. Glue the puzzle pieces on the branches of the tree. Try overlapping them for a 3 dimensional look.

3. If some of the pieces resemble other things, use to add them in your picture, such as flowers, people, a dog or cat, a sun, or whatever else your imagination shows you! Use markers to add other details.
