Running for Children of All AgesChildren of all ages love to run. Whether it is a toddler running around the house or a teenager involved in track, they love it. Keeping our children safe when running can be as easy as pie.
If your child is a toddler or preschooler the best thing you can do is make sure that things are picked up and out of harms way. Young children don’t pay much attention to their surroundings just to what they are running after. Be sure to watch for sharp corners, holes or lumps in the yard and objects that can cause harm if fallen over. If your child is a preteen then running can be a way for them to let off steam while gaining some exercise. Be sure your child has a stretching regimen before they run. Also be sure that your child doesn’t over extend himself or herself and try to run farther or harder then their bodies will allow. Make sure they have boundaries set for where they can run like a school track or a running area in the park. Always have an adult with your child to ensure their safety. Once your child has become a teenager running may not only be a part of their physical fitness routine, but also a part of their sport’s life. If your child has been running for a while they know their limits and how to build themselves up for the run and cool themselves down afterwards. If they haven’t been running, then be sure to talk to their coach. They can help by giving stretching and cool down exercises as well as help determine the limits your child can handle. Running is a way for your child to stay healthy and physically fit. If done properly it can also be a fun and exciting part of their lives. |
