Sock Maraca

This is an easy musical instrument to create and to play. It's also easy on the ears. Even your youngest child will enjoy making music and dancing to the rhythm that is their very own. You'll want to make more than one of these maracas... it won't be long before you'll be joining in the fun!

What You’ll Need

small plastic jar with secure screw top
raw rice or dried beans
tape
old socks
cotton stuffing - optional
paints or markers - optional

Instructions

1. Pour some raw rice and/or dried beans into the plastic container. Close the container and seal it shut securely with a good tape.

2. Cover the container with cotton stuffing (like quilt batting)to form a ball. If you don't have cotton stuffing, you could use old socks or soft fabric.

3. Push the rattle ball into the toe of an old, bright-colored sock. Knot it securely to keep the rattle ball from slipping out. If you don't have an old, brightly-colored sock, use a white sock and paint or decorate it with markers.

4. You may want to make one of these with just rice and one with just dry beans to have different sounds.
