What You’ll Need

red or green envelope
Christmas-themed shape punch
Christmas-themed patterned paper, such as scrapbooking paper or gift wrapping paper
scissors
glue

Instructions

One way to have your holiday card or letter stand out is to make your own personalized Christmas envelope. These are easy to make and need just a little drying time for the glue. Try making the envelopes assembly line style – decide how many Christmas envelopes you want to make and gather your supplies. Once you have everything in place you can do the punching all at once, the folding all at once, and the gluing all at once.

1. Punch Christmas shapes along the edges of the envelope, going through both the front and back of the envelope. If desired, you can also punch a shape on the envelope flap. Be careful not to punch too close to the edge so your envelope doesn’t come apart!

2. Cut the patterned paper almost as wide as the envelope and almost twice its length. Fold the patterned paper in half and slip it into the envelope so that the pattern is showing through the punched shapes. Attach the patterned paper to the envelope by putting small dabs of glue between the paper and the envelope.

*Tip: Measure twice and cut once! If you have a certain amount of patterned paper you want to use, be sure you have enough so you don’t run out while you are making your envelopes.

3. Cut a small square of the patterned paper and glue it inside the envelope flap, if you punched a shape there.

4. Place your special Christmas note or card inside this one-of-a-kind envelope!

Since you are not modifying the size of the envelope, the postage should not change but check with your post office to be sure. Once you see how easy it is to make personalized envelopes you will be thinking of many more ways you can use them.
