One way we can teach our children about the importance of our planet is to get them involved in producing their own fruits and vegetables in a family garden. Find foods your children like to eat and allow them to help in every step of the garden creation and maintaining process.

Depending on their age, your child can help with things such as tilling the land, planting seeds, weeding, and picking their own fruits and veggies.

You can even assign a certain section of the family garden or food item to each child. Set aside a specific time each evening that all the family members will go out to the garden and maintain their crops together. This gives your child a sense of responsibility and allows them to enjoy some quality time outdoors with other family members. And as they tend to and watch their plants grow they will experience a sense of accomplishment and you'll get to enjoy watching them learn and do something they are enjoying.

You don't have to limit your family garden to just fruits and vegetables either. You can also create a flower garden or a small greenhouse that can be easily maintained by the whole family, with each member choosing a plant of their choice to be in charge of.
