The Taste Testing PartyTaste testing in your kitchen is a great way to teach children to try new foods. It also teaches you what foods your children like to eat. I always tell my children "You never liked ice cream until you tried it!" and it is very true. You can also teach them the differences between sweet, salty, tangy, spicy, creamy, and sour. It is time to have a food party. Allow your children to help you pick out a variety of different recipes to prepare (you may wish to use recipes from different cultures to make it a bit more fun). Spend the afternoon preparing the recipes with your children. Once all of the food is done, have a taste testing party.
Let your children taste a little bit of everything. It is okay if they don't like it after they taste it, just as long as they are willing to taste it. And remember, to make it a point to try new foods too. If you are not open to new foods, your children won't be either. Just because you don't like it, does not mean your child won't. You and your child will be surprised at how many foods they will actually like. Ask them to describe the way the food tastes. Ask what makes it taste good to them or what it is they don't like about the taste? Tell them to use descriptive words such as sweet, salty, spicy, bland, sour, etc. This is a great way to teach them and you what kind of foods they might like in to try in the future. |
