> Christmas Activities Teach Your Child about Other Faiths and Christmas-time HolidaysOne way you can give your child a tolerance of other religions, cultures and beliefs is to give him or her a holiday mission to learn about those that are different from your own beliefs and celebrations.
Have your child investigate one of the ways that people of different faiths do or don't celebrate the winter holidays. This works well with one child or multiple children, because they can learn a new holiday every year or each child can present a different holiday allowing everyone to learn at one time. Have your child design, craft or draw pictures of each holiday. They can also write their own story to explain the holiday's history and how and where it is celebrated today. Your son or daughter can tell the rest of the family about their chosen holiday research one evening after dinner during the holiday season. Resembling a presentation, the project can be whatever your child wishes as long as it involves accurate information about the holiday they are presenting. Teaching your child about the various holidays that others celebrate, will not only give them knowledge, but give them a deeper understanding of other cultures as well. A well informed child is one that will not as likely fall victim to racism and lead a more fulfilled and accepting life. |
