> Earth Day Activities Teach Your Child to Preserve WaterApril 22nd is Earth Day and everyone around the globe should be participating in keeping our planet around for many years to come. What better way to do this by instilling in our children daily activities that will benefit the planet and those of us who live here. One thing we can do to ensure our children have a healthy place to live is to preserve our use of water on a daily basis. Here are a few simple ideas to save our planets water supply.
- Check and repair leaky faucets on a regular basis. When you realize you have a leak, quickly fix it to keep from losing unneccesary amounts. Check your pipes and faucets on a monthly basis, or more frequently to make sure everything is in proper working order. - Turn the water off when washing dishes or brushing your teeth. Instead only run the faucet when you are actually using it for these activities. When washing dishes, why not fill up one side of the sink with water and use it for rinsing instead of running the dishes under running water. - Limit shower times. Most people can easily complete their daily showers in 15-20 minutes, so teach your children to get in, get clean and get out when it comes time for their showers. Better yet, if spending time in a nice warm shower is your way of unwinding for the day, try a bath instead. - Don't water your lawn every single day. Nature has a way of knowing when it's time to rain and if you are in an area prone to droughts, limit your watering to every other day or a few times a week. - Wash your car less often. If you wash your car once a week, stretch it out to every other week or longer. |
