Teaching Children the Alphabet

There are so many different ways to teach your children the alphabet. It is important for them to know their letters at an early age. Letters make up words that make up sentences that will give your child a world of wealth and information.

One way to teach your child the alphabet is by singing the ABC song. Children pick up on songs and their words quickly. By singing this song to them they will begin the process of understanding the letters. You can sing it throughout the day as you work and play and before you know they will want to start singing it with you. Next thing you know they are signing it on their own and before you know it they will have the alphabet down pat.

Another way to teach your child the alphabet is through books. There are numerous amounts of books that show not only the upper case letters but also the lower case letters. By looking at the letter and pronouncing it they begin to see and understand the letter. Once they begin to say each letter then you can start showing them how that letter associates with a word such as A for apple.

You can also use magnetic letters to teach your child the alphabet. Use your refrigerator as a blackboard and place the letters on the door. Every time you go the refrigerator pick a letter to show to your child. It won’t be long before they are picking one for you. After they have the letters figured out, associate them with what you are taking from the refrigerator such as water starts with W.

Flash cards are another way to teach the alphabet. Most flash cards come with not only the uppercase letter but the lower case letter as well. This will help children to see the difference in both and how they are used in words and sentences alike. You can also find flash cards that include pictures to help with word association.

Teaching your child the alphabet at an early age will help them to understand their language and what it’s all about. Giving them the tools to build on their learning experience is a valuable part of growing up.
