Thankful for Our Environment TraditionsIn today’s world everyone knows that our environment takes a beating. We hear about the pollution, the litter and all the other things that are taking away from our clean and happy environment. Everyday our children see and hear about recycling, water, energy and fuel conservation. They know that these are things we need to do to keep our environment safe.
Our children probably know better than we do how to have a safe environment. Many times our children will be the ones to gather plastic, aluminum, newspaper and the likes to take to the recycle bins. They are anxious to help and one way they can do so is to make a tradition out of be thankful for and appreciating our environment. Here are a few ways to create a tradition that’s great for your family, but even better for the families all over the world. Planting a tree is one way to help. Children love to dig in the dirt. Take them to the local garden center and let them pick out the perfect tree. Find just the right spot in your yard for them to plant it. Better yet, if your yard isn’t the right place let your children find a park or a cemetery to plant their tree in. Be sure to get permission from the authorities before planting a tree on any location other than your own land. Take a day and pick up liter. Take a trash bag and a pair of gloves so your children will be safe. Let them walk along the sidewalk or in a park and pick up the trash that people deposit along the way. It’s messy, but what child doesn’t like messy? Children can also make a list of things that they know will help the environment. As said before our children probably know better than we do what is needed. Once they have their list check it over and make sure everything they come up with is safe for them to accomplish. Then let them have at it. From raking leaves, recycling plastic or saving aluminum cans, our environment needs a hand to remain safe and healthy. Our families are the best way to make sure these things are getting done. Teaching our children to be thankful for our environment may mean a longer and healthier life for you, your children and their children too. |
