> Thanksgiving Activities Thanksgiving Table CenterpieceThe kids always want to help on Thanksgiving. It could be with the food, the decorations or setting the table. Why not let them make the centerpiece for your Thanksgiving dinner table? Think of the things their little imaginations might come up with. Just remind them that it is Thanksgiving not Halloween or Christmas and they will need to keep that in mind while creating the centerpiece. What You’ll Need* Styrofoam rings and balls* Different colors of clay * Feathers, flowers, leaves and such * Construction paper * Scissors * Straight pins * Pictures of Thanksgiving items InstructionsLay the pictures of Thanksgiving items out on a table. This way the kids will have an idea of what you’re looking for in the way of a centerpiece. If you have more than one child, be sure to have them make the centerpieces small enough for everyone’s to fit on the table or allow them to make things that will go together into one big centerpiece for the middle of the table. The kids can use the different color clay to make their creations. Sculpting clay around different size Styrofoam balls works very well. This will also help you determine the size of your centerpiece. (These would make perfect fat little turkeys!) They can use the feathers, flowers, and leaves, etc. to decorate with. Also by taking construction paper and cutting out eyes, a nose, mouths or leaves they can make faces or just add some life to their masterpiece. Using straight pins with very tiny heads to attach items with works very well. Once the centerpiece is finished place some of the clay around the Styrofoam rings. Attach each piece to a ring clay to clay. This will help to keep your centerpiece in place and keep it from falling over into your mashed potatoes and gravy. |
