The First Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving Day is a day to reflect on all the things we are thankful for in our life. We often forget how the tradition of Thanksgiving all started. This year share the story of the first Thanksgiving with your children.

How to Play

First, go to your local library and find a few good books about the first Thanksgiving. This way you will have plenty of facts to share with your kids. You will want to know the who, what, when, where, and why of that special day.
Next, plan a time and share the story of Thanksgiving with your children. Tell them how hard things were for the Pilgrims when they first arrived in America. You will also need to tell them how the Native Americans showed them how to survive here. Explain the detail about the first Thanksgiving when they came together. Have your children tell you what they already know and correct all the misconceptions they may have. Your kids will probably have plenty of questions, so have Thanksgiving Day books available to you for any answers you may need help with.

This Thanksgiving Day you and your children will appreciate what the Pilgrims went through and for the help the Native Americans gave them. Your children will enjoy the story of Thanksgiving. They will also be thankful for the time you took to share this with them.
