Turkey BowlingThere are many different ways to spend your Thanksgiving afternoon. Watching football, taking a nap, or cleaning up after dinner are a few of the most common ways. Unless you’re a huge football fan, none of those options seem like much fun, do they? Why not try a game or two of turkey bowling this year? The kids will have a great time and so will you. How to PlayStart by making the bowling pins. Use 10 empty two-liter bottles. Be sure to clean them out before you start. Place a small amount of sand or rocks in the bottom of each bottle. This will keep the bottles from falling over too easily. The harder they are to knock over the more fun the game will be.Place the lid on the bottle and hand them over to your children. They can decorate them by using markers, construction paper and even feathers or leaves. However they prefer. You might be surprised at what they come up with when you let their imaginations take control. Set the pins up just like you would in regular bowling. Then step and mark off a lane for the ball to travel down. You can use duct tape to show where the gutters will be. Any type of ball will work. You can also use a round, smooth sided and firm pumpkin if you wish. Just be sure the stem is removed and that it is solid. Who wants to clean up pumpkin off the lane? Pick your first player. Sometimes it is best to start with the oldest child. This gives the younger children an idea of what they need to do. Some small children have never bowled and have no idea what they are supposed to do. Let them roll the ball down the lane and knock over the pins. If they get a strike they get to bowl again. The first person to get a turkey, or three strikes in a row, wins. Continue to play until at least everyone has had a chance to bowl. |
