What You’ll Need

twigs
leaves
grass
yarn, ribbon or pipe cleaners
scissors
markers
clay

Instructions

1. Go for a walk outside and collect twigs, leaves and grass. Back inside the house, choose which twigs will make the best bodies for your Twig People. Some twigs have extensions that look like arms or legs. Otherwise, tie other pieces of smaller twigs to give your Twig Person arms or legs.

2. Look over your leaf collection. Choose which ones make the best hair and clothes for your Twig People. You may have to cut the grass shorter, or fold it in half to make hair and clothes. Attach the leaves and grass to the twigs using yarn, ribbon or pipe cleaners.

3. Add features, such as eyes and a smile, with markers.

4. Push the ends of the Twig People into small balls of clay to make them stand.

When you collect the twigs be sure you end up with a wide variety of twigs - short, tall, thin, thick, with smaller branches coming off, etc. You can create a family of twig people with the various twigs you bring inside! The decoration of twig people can be changed by using yarn for hair or a skirt instead of leaves, this way you can get several different looks.
