Visit a Local Veteran

If you’re looking for something special you and your child can do to help out your community, why not go visit a Veteran at your local Veteran’s hospital? So many Veterans have no family who visit. It can be a learning experience for your child and put a smile on the face of someone special.

Call your local Veteran’s hospital and talk to the staff about visiting. They can tell you who to visit, if they would like or need anything special and what is the best time to visit. They can also give you help on talking with your child about what to expect.

Talk to your child about who a Veteran is. Explain what they have done for our country and why it is important to bring them into their lives. Also be sure to explain to your child what they will experience and see on their visit.

Your child can make a special gift to take with them. What is a better gift to share than a box of homemade cookies or pictures your child has drawn and colored?

Then take your child to visit. A veteran can tell your child stories they may never hear anywhere else. Encourage your child to ask questions. Let them laugh or cry right along with their new friend. Let your child be themselves. Also be sure to say hello to all the veterans you come in contact with.

You and your child will make new friends and help make a veteran in your community know that they matter.
