Volunteer at a Soup Kitchen at ChristmasTeaching your children the meaning of giving to those less fortunate at Christmas is one of those moments in your life, as well as theirs, that will stand out in your memory forever. Finding ways to volunteer during the holidays is a wonderful way to create those memories and instill values in your child at the same time.
Try volunteering at a soup kitchen during the holidays. Your child will be able to see that there are people who really are without so many of the things they take for granted every day, especially during the winter time. Many of our children take for granted things like heat and a warm bed at night because they've never known any different. By showing them that not everyone is as lucky to have those things in life, you are teaching them many valuable things that they will later take with them into their adult lives. By working in a soup kitchen, or similar volunteer activity, your child will learn that pity is not what it's about, but being good to others who really need it. They'll see just how important it is to help those less fortunate and feel the indescribable feeling of making someone smile just by being there and showing they care. |
