Wacky Mix and Match Magnet CharactersMake room on your refrigerator for these mix 'n match people! When the characters your child creates are all nicely displayed on your refrigerator you'll think it's a lovely work of art. But when your child turns into a mad scientist who mixes up the heads, bodies and legs with each other, you will be startled to find a wacky disaster! For a child who is less inclined to be a mad scientist, you may want to create this craft like the old paper dolls, using one head and many "clothes" on the body and legs. What You’ll Needmagnets from companies (like magnetic business cards and calendars)colored paper, construction paper scissors glue (you'll need to experiment) markers optional: glitter glue and other art materials, fabrics, feathers, etc. to make garments, hair, etc. Instructions1. Collect magnets of similar sizes that you receive as from companies, restaurants and other businesses.2. Cut colored paper the same size as the front of the magnet. Glue colored paper on top of the magnet to cover. You may have to experiment with the glue a little. Magnets have different covers and what glue works on one may not work on another. Try roughing the cover up a little with sandpaper before gluing. 3. Create mix-and-match characters by drawing three sets of magnets: different heads with hair, hats, etc.; different bodies with shirts, jackets, etc.; different legs and feet with skirts, pants, etc. 4. Put them on your refrigerator in the "proper" order, where the person "belongs" together. Then start mixing them up and see how wacky you can make it. |
