> Thanksgiving Activities Decorate the Yard for ThanksgivingMany of us see the wonderful decorations people place in the yards for Halloween and Christmas. How often do you see a yard decorated for Thanksgiving? Your children will have a great time making turkeys, leave wreaths and other types of decorations to fill the yard. By using many of the things that nature gives you as natural decorations you can make your yard colorful and keep the cost down too.
Start by having your children rake the leaves up in your yard. Once they have a nice big pile of leaves they can use these to stuff turkeys, scarecrows or any other items you may want to place in the yard. They can also pick out various colorful leaves to make a wreath, use as feathers on their turkeys or to place in a collage in the window as colorful decorations. Send the kids out to look for pine cones, acorns, fall flowers, berries and other fall foliage. Many of these types of things come in handy when making fall decorations. They work well when making cornucopia pots to hang on your front porch or deck. Your children can make fall arrangements in flowerpots that can be placed at the front of your home or along a walkway. By using some fall flowers and arranging them in the pot then including a scarecrow on a stick or a stuffed turkey you have the perfect decoration. They can decorate with pumpkins also. Pumpkins come in many different shapes and sizes. Having decorated pumpkins or carved pumpkins with candles can set off any Thanksgiving yard. Lit up pumpkins can make a walkway glow when place strategically along both sides. What a perfect way to light someone’s way to your front door. Don’t forget the Thanksgiving wreath on the front door. Let the children shape their wreath with wire. By adding leaves, berries, pine cones, acorns or corn they can create a beautiful wreath to set off your front door. If you have some strands of white lights they can incorporate those throughout the wreath to give it a nice glowing effect. No matter what you put in your yard just decorating it for Thanksgiving will set your yard apart from others in the neighborhood. By using decorations your children have made your yard will be the talk of the town and be a fun time for the whole family. You might also get the neighbors to start their own family tradition of decorating at Thanksgiving. |
