Your Child and ReadingMost adults know how important it is to read books. We learn from them, we can relax with a good book and even think about someday writing our own book. Children need our help to realize the importance of reading books.
Start your child’s reading experience at a young age. Even babies like to be read too. Incorporate some time into their day even if it’s just a bedtime story. This will teach your child at an early age that reading can be relaxing and a fun way to learn. Help your child learn to read. Start with very easy one word or one sentence books. Read them over and over. Before you know it they will be able to read the book to you. When your child starts to read on their own visit your local library together. Show them how the library works, get them a library card and let them start to checkout their own books. No matter what books they are reading remember it is important to them. It sparks their interest and that will help them continue to read. Book stores are a great place to take your children to find books they like. If they buy a book that is special to them they will learn to respect that book. Teaching your child that a book is always their friend and the significance of reading is one the best gifts you can give your child. |
